Go Daddy’s Dedicated Resources in Washington, D.C. Support New Laws

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (Nov. 14, 2007) – GoDaddy.com joins in celebrating a big victory today and it has nothing to do with a Super Bowl commercial or registering domain names.  The victory is all about children – specifically legislation to protect kids on the Internet.

The U.S. House of Representatives today passed a package of child protection bills, including legislation referred to as the “PROTECT Our Children Act of 2007” and “Keeping the Internet Devoid of Sexual Predators Act of 2007.”  The bundle of bills include funding public awareness and educational campaigns, creating a special counsel to prosecute child exploitation, bolstering the Web Crimes Against Children task force and making it a crime for adults to lie about their ages online in order to lure minors for sexual conduct.

U.S. Representative Harry Mitchell, (D-AZ), praised Go Daddy for its initiative and dedication to keeping children safe.  “Go Daddy has been an important leader in our community and the international Internet community when it comes to keeping our children safe,” said Mitchell. “They have made it a priority to ensure our children are protected and offenders are prosecuted.  It is always encouraging to see businesses take a leadership role in an important cause like this.”

Go Daddy Director of Government Relations Martha Johnston is based in Washington, D.C. and has been keenly focused on the bills passed by Congress today. Additionally, Go Daddy’s General Counsel Christine Jones has testified before Congress several times, providing information, insight and ideas in the fight against child pornography.

“We take this issue to heart and devote significant resources to keep children safe on the Internet,” said Go Daddy’s top lawyer.  “We believe, as the world’s dominant registrar and a leading hosting provider, it is our duty to promote public policy like this.  We do it because it’s the right thing to do.”

Go Daddy has more than 24 million domain names under registration, hosts three million Web sites and services more than 4.6 million customers around the world.  The company, often called an Internet titan, has drawn publicity for its racy and effective Super Bowl advertising campaigns, but is all business when it comes to keeping the Internet safe for all users.  Go Daddy employs a 24/7 Abuse Department to help investigate any and all complaints about inappropriate sites or other violations such as phishing or spamming.

“We definitely know how to keep our advertising edgy and fun, but we are absolutely committed to the fight against child predators and child pornography on the Internet,” said Go Daddy CEO/Founder and father of three, Bob Parsons.  “What’s more important than keeping our children safe?”

The child protection legislation goes to the U.S. Senate next, if approved, it would be sent to President George W. Bush to be signed into law.
